Hello, I go by Genevieve or GG & I use she/her pronouns. Nice to meet you.

I’m a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) licensed in clinical social work, serving the NJ tri-state area (NY, NJ, PA), soon Florida. Of nearly only 1,000 CSTs in the country, I’m one of only a few in the entire country who accept most commercial insurance plans. The Certificate of Sex Therapy is credentialed through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors & Therapists (AASECT).

I’m dedicated to supporting adults in getting through stress, securing meaningful relationships, & deepening self-awareness. I practice psychotherapy as an application of the humanities in healthcare, guiding people to wellness, authenticity, & discovery in the context of society & culture. I never frame work in pathology or blame. I offer talk therapy & other programming.

I talk about the whole person & all experiences. I’m also human myself: I’m a major foodie, wellness & fitness enthusiast, & avid world traveler. My specialties broadly are: Sex & aging; personal growth & self-esteem; general relationship challenges (family, friends, co-workers); sex and intimacy; Sexual & Gender Minoritized topics (LGBTQIA+); Women’s & Men’s mental health.

My style is direct, relational, modern, friendly, interactive, conversational, educational, evidenced-based, & supportive. I emphasize human sexuality, queer theory, philosophy, values coaching, & behavioral health consultancy through a socio-historical lens. I’ve trained with the Buehler Institute & the Modern Sex Therapy Institutes.

Headshot of Genevieve Gellert

I like to describe sex therapy as talk therapy about human sexuality. Our sexual selves are connected to every aspect of our lives. It’s the ultimate fusion of my personal & professional values: Health & wellness, choice, privacy, freedom, education, empowerment, discovery, feminism, sensuality, integrity, social justice, service, dignity & worth of the person, & the importance of relationships.

Answers to FAQs…

The field and practice of sex therapy, with my training & and past work as a medical social worker, allows me to support others reconceptualize, learn about, & empower sexual health at large.

My work individually enhances health, improves relationships, develops comfort and acceptance of desires, experiences, & bodies, increases pleasure, reduces negative feelings like shame, & empowers sexual expression. I engage in community organizing & legislative advocacy to protect reproductive health, sexual privacy, & sexual orientation, and gender identity as human rights. I practice psychotherapy as an application of the humanities in healthcare, guiding people to wellness, authenticity, and self-discovery in the context of society & culture.

  • Sex therapist & LCSW by trade; major foodie, sucker for sunrises, nature lover, avid world traveler, and wellness freak (current habits: pilates, Peloton, hiking, and half marathons). Born and raised in North NJ, I lived in Providence, RI and Philadelphia, PA for education and the start of my career before returning to North NJ to settle with my husband, two rescue cats, and one dog.

With over a decade of study and experience in the healthcare sector, I eventually specialized in medical social work and later earned certificates in yoga and mindfulness-based stress reduction. While working in healthcare settings, with my Master of Social Work degree, I simultaneously worked as as part-time private practice therapist. Since 2021, I own a full time private practice.

  • Outpatient mental health services, telehealth only.

The Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) codes offer doctors and health care professionals a uniform language for coding medical services and procedures to streamline reporting, increase accuracy and efficiency. These codes, combined with diagnosis codes (F codes), are required in order to have insurance pay for care.

    CPT code for individual: 90837-95-GT

    CPT code of couples: 90847-95-GT

Diagnosis codes or F Codes vary for each client.

  • In-Network with Aetna, United, Cigna. Co-pay or co-insurance fee (what you will owe for session) is dependent on your insurance coverage. The decision to use, or not use, your health insurance is up to you. Insurance can make therapy more affordable by reducing costs.

There are, however, known trade-offs, including the need to share your information and the services I provide with insurance companies. I am happy to discuss this further and help you weigh the pros and cons of using insurance during our initial consultation call. If you know you would like to use insurance for our sessions, please reach out to your insurance provider to ask about your mental health benefits.

Out-of-pocket fee / Out-of-Network fee: $150 (subject to change); Anyone who is out of pocket (not using insurance for any reason) will be emailed a Superbill at the end of every month to submit to their insurance for potential reimbursement, if requested. Reimbursement in any amount is not guaranteed. If your insurance denies your claim, you are responsible for paying for sessions, retro and in the future, at this rate.

The benefit of private pay is confidentiality- only you and I will know that you are seeing a therapist. Additionally, I am not required to make a diagnosis or follow an insurance company’s restrictions or rules, i.e. determination of length of treatment.

No show or late cancel fee: $60. Late cancel is defined as less than 48 hours from the time at which I receive the notice in writing that you are intending to cancel (not necessarily when the email is time stamped or sent). Please note that this may be more than your typical co-pay or co-insurance rate.

  • Laws about privacy are changing.

Our conversations are confidential. In some legally specific situations, I can share information without the client's written consent. Common exceptions are:

~Disclosing private information without consent in order to protect the patient or the public from serious harm — if, for example, a client discusses plans and intent to attempt suicide or harm another person. I am required by law to report abuse or neglect of children, older adults, and people with disabilities.

~Releasing information if I receive a court order.

I will discuss with you as needed changes to care and your options for continued access to safe care as State legislatures evolve their statutes on privacy, to ensure your informed consent and privacy, like in the case of reproductive health.

Please note using insurance may cause third-party interference with your care (limits to number of sessions you may receive, requesting additional diagnostic information beyond the already required CPT and F codes discussed above or other private health information before agreeing to reimburse for care). At any point, to ensure more privacy and autonomy, you are able stop using your insurance and pay the out-of-pocket fee.

I centralize my billing / invoicing, scheduling, video conferencing, and progress notes and documentation creation and storage through HIPAA-complaint programs: SimplePractice, Alma, Zoom-Business, and Doxy.me.

I use Google Voice for phone communication. I use ProtonMail to communicate via email. ProtonMail is a HIPAA-compliant email service. There are inherent confidentiality risks in communicating by email. Email is only being used to share information with you. Email that is encrypted is generally considered a confidential form of communication. If you prefer for me not to send you information via email, please let me know.
